I work with a lot of small business owners and it surprises me how often it happens that when I ask for a high resolution version of their logo they don’t have one. So as I was creating a new logo for a customer today I thought this would be a great topic to talk to you guys about today!
FORMATS:
When you have your logo created make sure you get all the file formats you may need. When I create logos I provide the following file types for my customers.
PNG: which an image with a clear background so you can place your logo on top of pictures and not have a big white box around it.
JPG: an image that does have the white background. This is good for your Facebook profile.
PDF: this is good for when you need a high resolution version, clear and crisp and can be blown up larger.
EPS or AI File: This is the original vector file. This is needed to have a scaleable logo. Want to have a billboard or vehicle wrap made? Then you need this file to make your logo super sized without being pixelated. If you want to have swag made with your logo they will most likely ask you for the vector format of your logo.
COLORS:
If you are having a custom sign or logo made have your graphic designer color match for you so you make sure your building or surroundings match your logo or signage exactly. Just like a painter a graphic designer can use a color bridge to match any shade you want!
SAVE IT:
When you get your logo files and/or style guide make sure you save it and back it up! Keep them handy and make sure your staff knows where they are kept. Make sure the approved version is what everyone is using. You never know when you may need a last minute banner made or some pens reordered. Having your files easily accessible will make all of your lives easier!
